 Germany’s ‘Babylon Berlin’ wins

 

Seoul International Drama Awards 2018

 

German drama series “Babylon Berlin” won the grand prize at the 13th Seoul International Drama Awards held at the KBS Hall in Yeouido on Monday.

Crime-period drama “Babylon Berlin,” which portrays post-World War I Germany, took the top spot for its well-written storyline and stunning visuals.

Apart from the grand prize, this year’s competition was divided into four categories; miniseries, TV movie, serial drama and comedy.

Korean drama “Mother” won the Golden Bird Prize for miniseries. It centers on a struggling woman who tries to save a young girl who was abused by her biological mother. “Mother” stars Lee Bo-young, who won the best actress award on Monday night.

 


The Golden Bird Prize for serial drama went to “Candice Renoir,” a French show about a female cop who is a mother going back to the force after 10 years.

In the comedy category, Israel’s “The New Black,” depicting the youthful life of four young students who come from Haredi, Orthodox Judaism backgrounds, took the award.

In the noncompetition category designed to recognize outstanding Korean dramas, “While You Were Sleeping,” “Fight for My Way” and “Something in the Rain” won prizes.

A total of 268 entries from 56 countries were received for this year’s competition, the highest number since the annual awards began in 2006. The SDA Screening Committee comprised two Korean and five international judges this year.
