of SDA 2024 International Competition Category

28 Worldwide Dramas such as <3 Body Problem>, <Moving>, and <Blossoms Shanghai>

move on to the Final Judge


Seoul International Drama Awards 2024, which is highly anticipated from global fans, has unveiled the nominees for International Competition category. This year, among 346 entries from 48 countries/regions, a total of 28 dramas have been nominated in category of TV Movies, Miniseries, and Series. Additionally, 24 world-renowned directors, screenwriters, actors, and actresses are competing only for 4 seats of prize.

 

In International Competition Category for TV Movies feature many female-centered narratives. The nominees include total 9 dramas: <The Divine Madness of Alda Merini> (RAI Radiotelevisione Italiana), which portrays the life of the female poet Alda <The Marlow Murder Club> (ITV Studios), a story about three women solving a murder case in their neighborhood <2:15 PM> (CJ ENM O'PEN), which shows the children who comfort each others wounds, and the other six titles.

 

In International Competition Category for Series, the nominees include total 8 dramas: <Blossoms Shanghai> (Tencent), directed by Wong Kar-wai who gets significant attention as his first TV series <Korean Khitan War> (KBS), a grand Korean historical drama starring Dong-jun Kim and Su-jong Choi, <Wyfie> (Homebrew Films), a teen drama from South Africa, <Justice: Misconduct> (GlOBO), a crime drama from Brazil <Another Love> (Global Agency), a romance thriller from Turkey, and the other three selected works.

 

The nominees for International Competition Category in miniseries include total 11 dramas: <Moving> (Disney+), a K-hero drama that had the highest production cost among Korean dramas and it became Disney+’s most-watched local original series in 2023 <Daily Dose of Sunshine> (Netflix), a Korean humanism drama about mental illness <3 Body Problem> (Netflix), based on the novel that won Hugo Award for the first time in Asia and involved the production team of <Game of Thrones> <Boy Swallows Universe> (Netflix), based on the bestselling novel by Trent Dalton <Cigarette Girl> (Netflix), Indonesia's first original Netflix series <The Worst of Evil> (Disney+), Korean crime action drama about drug cartel during the 90s, and the other five titles.

 

The nominees in International Competition individual awards for Best Director and Screenwriter are: Director Jiří Strach and Screenwriter Marek Epstein for <The Saint>, Director Inje Park and Screenwriter Full Kang for <Moving>, Director Dong-wook Han for <The Worst of Evil>, Director Michail Charalampidis and Screenwriter Penny Fylaktaki for <Soul Daughters>, Screenwriter David Benioff for <3 Body Problem>, and Screenwriter Wen Qin for <Blossoms Shanghai>.

 

The nominees in International Competition individual awards for Best Actor: Kang-ho Song from <Uncle Samsik>, Hu Ge from <Blossoms Shanghai>, Felix Cameron from <Boy Swallows Universe>, Matej Hádek from <Into the Darkness>, Alexis Arroyo from <Nothing to See Here> and Tomer Sisley from <On the Run>.

For Best Actress, the nominees are: Jiřina Bohdalová from <The Saint> who received the Czech Medal of Merit for her literary contributions, Robyn Malcolm from <After the Party> who was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit, Soi Park from <2:15PM>, Dian Sastrowardoyo from <Cigarette Girl>, Yili Ma from <Blossoms Shanghai> and Phoebe Tonkin from <Boy Swallows Universe>. The competition is particularly notable for featuring a diverse range of talented actresses spanning from the teenage Soi Park to the 90-year-old Jiřina Bohdalová.

 

The winners will be announced in September along with the winners of K-Drama Competition and International Invitation Category.

 

Seoul International Drama Awards 2024, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Seoul Metropolitan Government, KBS, MBC, SBS, EBS and CBS, will take place from September 25th (Wed) to September 27th (Fri). On Sep 25th, the Ceremony will be held at KBS Hall (broadcast live on SBS TV and SDA Official YouTube Channel). From Sep 26th to 27th, festival with celebrities such as K-Drama Costume Experience Booth, Drama Talk Concert and Screening will be held at Banpo Hangang Park.
